RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

Tha National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is the starting point for anyone wanting to gain employment as a lifeguard anywhere in the UK. A full forty hour course will teach you rescue techniques, emergency first aid, personal safety and the legislation that protects you and leisure service users. 

People that undertake this course will leave having learned not only how to be a lifeguard, but life skills including: teamwork, organisation, communication, leadership and resilience, that will stay with them forever. 

RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches

NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification for teachers working on the poolside or in the water during programmed activities, such as a swimming lesson. It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools, including pools where the water is deeper than the teacher’s standing depth.

During this course you will learn what your legal responsibilities are and how to use your team to the best of their ability to ensure that you keep your members and pupils safe.

RLSS Emergency Response (Swimming Pool)

The RLSS UK Emergency Response (ER) Pool Qualification is designed for staff working in a facility where there is a swimming pool but no direct poolside supervision and ancillary staff to enable them to provide greater support to the Lifeguard team in the event of an emergency. ER Pool is not a Lifeguard qualification.

ER Pool qualification contains 3 sections;

Section 1 - The emergency responder's role, Pool Safety Operating Procedures, types of pools and swimming safety information
Section 2 - Responding to an emergency and the Emergency Action Plan
Section 3 - CPR and First Aid

RLSS Aquatic Therapy Shallow Pool Rescue Award

ATSPRA is a supervision and rescue qualification for therapists, teachers and support staff working on the poolside or in the water during activities such as, aquatic therapy or therapeutic exercise/play. The qualification is suitable for use in shallow pools where the rescuer will not be required to swim to perform a rescue, with water no deeper than the rescuers chest depth.

RLSS Open Water Lifeguard

The Open Water Lifeguard qualification enables candidates with no previous lifeguard experience to become qualified. By attaining this qualification candidates will have been assessed as competent to provide supervision and rescue cover for planned, organised and risk-assessed activities in open water (still water, non-tidal), but not suitable for coastal waters / beaches.

The course requires a minimum of 18 hours (3 days) training . Candidates should have some previous open water swimming experience and be able to swim 400m easily. Wetsuits are required.
